Repost of GORK

GORK Sci-Fi trailer Rotoscope animation
The film was shot with a 16mm film camera and took from 1985 till 1989 to finish the film. The overall reason for  the lengthy work time was that the rotoscoping was done using good ol' fashioned cel painting techniques. It was also mostly a one man project. Have to give props for that.

Inspiration

I've recently heard of an underrated video game masterpiece known as Bastion. I haven't done any research on the game's plot, but I've seen some gameplay footage and a couple short reviews. But what I did find out about the game was it's score which I thought to be one of the greatest collections of music I've ever heard in a video game.

Here's one of the 22 songs from the soundtrack.
Build That Wall (Zia's Theme)

Lyrics by Darren Korb
Vocals by Ashley Barrett

A simple, emotional, beautiful work of art. Both the game and it's music alike.
But overall inspiring.

Weekly Report 10/7 - Stick Figures and Stick Figures and Stick Figures...

What I've learned: How to motion tween a stick figure, how to classic tween a stick figure, how frame by frame animate a stick figure......stick figures.

What I want to learn: How to make uber awesome typography videos.

What gave me lemons: Having Flash crash on me for the first time. I've just noticed that flash rhymes with crash, how appropriate.

What made my lemons into lemonade: Seeing my animations coming out so well. Can't wait to start on an actual project.

Too lazy to add a funny picture this week.

Weekly Report 9/23 - Discovered Colors

What I've learned: The 5 major principles of design, the elements of design, a few things about flash, and the beloved, magical, all powerful color wheel.

What I want to learn: How to animate in flash and how the process of adding music to the animation is achieved.

What made me mad: Continuously recoloring and reprinting my color harmonies project over and over because I either used the wrong color matches or the printer refusing to print a simple red-orange background.

What brought me joy: Finally getting to use and learn about the flash software. The joy was short-lived for that the program was not as fun as I imagined in my head.

My reaction to flash:

I hope ill get better with it soon...

Weekly Report 9/16 - Adobe Illustrator

This is the weekly report, here ill leave little post-its and bits of information about my learning experience through the course of animation class and post anything else that's relevant.

What I've learned: The very basics of the Adobe Illustrator software, how to operation a scanner, and how to use a drawing tablet. Im like a friggin learnin machine, man.

What I want to learn: How to animate my character (in the most painless way possible). And how to crank up the mouse sensitivity on a mac computer, its like i have to move my mouse more than an inch to get all the way across the screen!

Aggravations: Having to redrawn your entire picture because you used the wrong drawing tool to trace it so you can fill it with color (sorry Enya!) and taking 45 minutes to draw your character in a simple fighting pose because you have know idea how to draw the exact positioning of the legs and having to erase it several times and having the erasing shavings get all over your bed so now you have to google how to draw fight poses and learn how to draw the right pose you want but they dont have the tutorial for the pose you want so you just say f it and move on with your life and take 2 hours drawing other poses for your character.

Alleviations: Playing my ukulele. Don't judge me.

GORK - A Unique Rotoscoping Animation

This is a very strange but oddly interesting short film done with rotoscoping animation.

The Beginning of the End of the Beginning

The beginning of a blog. The first step of something new in my life, something i've always dreaded and avoided for as long as i could. But alas, it is inevitable.

This, is my blog.

I think i threw up a little in my mouth...

Its going to be awhile but ill get used to blogging sooner or later. Writing was never my style, but i've always enjoyed the little spurts of creativity that i get from time to time that i wanted to express through writing. Like movie ideas, video ideas, stories, or just small ideas that pop into my head that im afraid to forget.

So anyway, THIS is what im doing. I shall post what ever comes to mind and what ever i am required to post. And with the option of posting videos and pictures, i have a large arsenal of what i will post.

In the mean time, this is the beginning of the end of the beginning.
