Weekly Report 12/16 - Editing Switch [ON] OFF
What I learned: How to give a crash course on the entire class.
What I want to learn: Lighting techniques.
What made me happy: Adobe Suite is now in my ownership.
What made me sad: All the personal projects I've been putting off because I didn't have Premiere have now all fallen into my lap. It's more exciting than saddening. Either way I'm still crying.
I found an interesting article of a video game music composer being interviewed on his career as a composer and he gives some helpful advice on the profession.
http://www.industrygamers.com/news/industry-careers-game-music-composer/
I'm starting to lean towards this as what I want to do as a job.
Secrets of the Viral Video Response
3 things I learned from this article:
- That there are open internet sites that get paid to advertise videos.
- Sites like these were never "hidden" from the public like I thought.
- Bloggers can be paid to write about advertised videos.
2 opinions:
- I think using YouTube is a better advertising technique because it can continue to introduce people to the product much time after it's release.
- Who ever started this idea must be rolling in the dough right now.
1 question - How many people got their videos into the high millions without advertising?
Gollum's Setup Response
3 things I learned from this article:
- That motion capture has changed from just using morph suits with yellow balls.
- King Kong was motion captured.
- That someone actually thought of the idea to make a motion captured talk show.
2 opinions:
- I agree that acting is acting, regardless if its cgi or not.
- I hope that the limits of motion capture will be taken further and will be used more creatively.
1 question - So for Return of the Planet of the Apes they had a bunch of people in these suits?

What I learned: To research websites before buying very expensive software from them.
What I want to learn: What the other programs are in Adobe Suite like Audition and Encore.

What made me sad: Having to wait for my Adobe stuff for longer.
Stuffy stuff:
I got bored and made a new song.
http://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/513786
I also made a new video but it isn't very nice cause my friend swears at me in it a lot so I shall not post it.
Just kidding, here it is: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cZ0oWEdPIhc
Marvel's Phase 2 Response
3 things I learned from this article:
- Rival studios will probably start working together.
- That the Avengers created a new model of combining multiple story plots together from other films.
- They're going to have Aquaman in the Justice League movie.
2 opinions:
- The idea and execution of creating multiple movies to eventually collide into one is cool.
- Seeing who's gonna play Aquaman is gonna be surprising regardless of who it is.
1 question - Why would Whedon make a new show based around the S.H.I.E.L.D.?
Russian Santa Response
3 things I learned from this article:
- There are still animation directors who want to make movies without pop culture references.
- Santa is finally remade with a serious and more interesting character design.
- That directors still aren't afraid to make scary scenes in children's movies.
2 opinions:
- Peter Ramsey is a good director in my book. Serious Santa and scary but meaningful scenes? 10/10.
- I like the naturalistic style of cinematic animation.
1 question - Why does the rabbit and that little yellow man have to look to ridiculous?

What I want to learn: How to get a lot of free cardboard. To make a city. To destroy it. In a monster costume. It's a plan for a project. #dontjudgeme
What made me happy: I'm one step closer to getting Adobe software.
What made me sad: The website is taking it's grand old time accepting my evidence as an eligible student.
Good ol' fashioned hard work:
Toys R Us Demo Disk (PS1) - Game 2 - Legend of Legaia [PART 1]
A new video on my new channel. It's 26 minutes long and is full of funny text-commentary that I've become accustomed to making. It took way too much time to make.
Twilight Romance Response
3 things I learned from this article:
- That Edward is the most superior male of all human kind.
- Jeep owners have conflicting relationships with their vampire-loving spouses.

Weekly Report 11/18 - The Extended Deadline Will Give You Enough Time, She Said....
What I learned: How to make text in After Effects. I know we learned more, but that's the only thing I used so far. Therefore I forgot everything else.
What I want to learn: How to use more video effects in AE.
What made me happy: Getting permission to use my friend's music for the documentary.
What made me sad: I couldn't get my most sought after interview with one of my favorite youtubers.
#coolstuff
I've always known that video games are often used to project cinematic pieces of art, whether it's a rendered CGI cut-scene or in-game recorded footage. But I've never bought my attention to Grand Theft Auto 4's capability of letting players create a real looking cinematic film/video. I'm not sure if these are from means of in-game recording mechanics or its a separate software altogether (not just Fraps), but some users can pull off some borderline professional looking action scenes using the game engine.
Here's an example of what I'm talking about:
Colorblind Glasses Response
3 things I learned from this article:
- That colorblindness could be restored.
- That glasses had the potential to fix colorblindness and not something more medicinal.
- Non-colorblind people can also see better, more full colors with these glasses.
2 opinions:
- 600 dollars for these glasses is pretty insane.
- 400 dollars is even more insane for people who don't even need them.
1 question - I wonder what would happen if I wore multiple colorblind glasses at once...would I see through walls eventually?
iPhone Filmmaking Response
3 things I learned from this article:
- That this type of production isn't professionally treated like a regular film (i.e the director has to watch the iPhone footage off the actor's phone.)
- A fake documentary has a better chance to be more well received than a real one.
- You're ALLOWED to use low grade cameras to make first-person documentary footage.
2 opinions:
- I'm glad Levinson didn't give actors unrealistic top tier cameras to film their "found footage".
- I'd beat the actor who forgot to press record on their phone.
1 question - Would there be a higher chance of having artifacts in the cell phone footage?

What made me sad: Halloween was on a Wednesday. I got things to do on Wednesday. I mean come on.
MORE:
A song I made called The End
Yea, that's all I got this week. But its a good song. I mean, its just three chords played over and over. But its EMOTIONAL. It makes you FEEL man. Feel emotions. Like hunger and sassy. But those aren't the emotions I was going for. I wanted to use the song in something but I don't have ideas yet. But it'll come to me soon/sometime/eventually/probably not.

Final Report 5/31
In general, what did you like most about this class?
- That I got to get a lot of experience with multiple animation programs and learning what techniques I did and didn't like to use in my animations.
What was your favorite project and why?
- The stop motion project. Even though mine didn't turn out as good as I planned, it introduced me into stop motion and it made me feel that I have this whole other type of technique that I can do anywhere without a crazy program.
In general, what did you like least about this class?
- The fact that we didn't learn any basic Actionscript coding. I really wish I learned how to add play buttons so I could properly add them to websites (like Newgrounds where people hate it when theres no buttons)
What was your least favorite project and why?
-Rotoscoping because it was too much of a repetitive project for me. It didn't help that I didn't use a tablet though.
What are your future plans upon graduation?
-Working in either the music or film industry.
Do you feel that this class will help you achieve your future academic or career goals? Please give specific examples.
- Possibly. Animating has been something I've always wanted to learn ever since I was a young teenager when I first found flash videos online. I'd prefer to use animation along side other skills like film (for example, having an animated person fighting a real person).
What advice would you give to incoming students?
- Do your storyboards on time and have you animations be as weird as possible. Licata likes weird.
Additional comments:
- That I got to get a lot of experience with multiple animation programs and learning what techniques I did and didn't like to use in my animations.

Weekly Report 5/18 - Coding Hurts My Head
What I learned: That Youtube likes to take my flash projects (that require very careful and accurate timing to match the voices/music) and make the timing off by .009 seconds just enough to make it look weird.
What I want to learn: How to do basic ActionScript coding in Flash (Preloaders, start/play buttons, etc).
What made me happy: All the positive feed back on my music video.
What made me sad: How not fun basic ActionScript 3 coding is.
ActionScript 3 Preloader Tutorial

Fading In/Out Effect in Flash
I found a great tutorial on how to create a fading effect in Flash (WISH I KNEW ABOUT IT A LOT EARLIER)
Heres the link: http://www.dummies.com/how-to/content/how-to-create-fade-effects-in-flash-cs5.html
Basically you make the symbol a motion, click on the symbol, and go to "color effects" in properties and set it to "alpha". Then have the playhead on the frame where you want it to fade and adjust the alpha in the color effects submenu however you want.
That right there----------------------------------------------------->

makin music
After spending many hours doing nothing on my 3D project, I decided this week to start creating music for my short. During this time I found myself a new inspiration to spend more of my time working on music rather than burning the day away doing nothing: the Gorillaz
Something about the combination of mixed styles of music and animation that makes me want to get up and spill my mind on whatever instrument is closest to me. Perhaps one day I'll combine my animation into my own creative music as well.

Quick Cheetah TIP
You can create new tabs next to the 3D view and Node editor by right clicking next to them and selecting "Add Tab".
With this you can place an F-Curve editor tab next to the 3D view tab so you dont have to keep switching out with only 1 tab.

Too Many Channels
With all the frequent animations that i'm being forced to make in my master's sweatshop, I need a place to expose them to the public. So from here on, all my animations will be available for viewing on my SEWPR OFFISHAL YEWTUBE CHANNAL Xx1337xA55AssInXSn1pErxX!!!1!1!!11111 no just kidding. It's DenominatorZero1.
In addition to that channel, I have several other channels with other non-animation content. All my channels are listed here:
DenominatorZero1
What to expect: Strictly my animations. Usually those of a comedic matter.
To visit my channel click here
DampMooseProductions
What to expect: Comedy shorts made by a group of teenagers in a video production class. We try to film whenever we can so never think that were dead when we don't post for awhile.
To visit this channel click here
cheeseitzz
What to expect: Anything that I feel like posting. This is my personal channel where I post things that mostly relate to comedy and music, but I like to experiment with other styles like kinetic typography, horror, and lots of weird stuff. Prepare to be creeped out.
To visit this channel click over there here
Any videos posted on these channels I shall try to post here (except for the creepy stuff, unless you like that).
